Another author from my hometown, McHenry, IL, penned this novel. I have almost finished reading this neat story about a young boy who is at first, distant from his great-grandfather, but quickly grows close to him. The bond is the great-grandfathers opening up about his personal experiences in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and in particular, the epic battle for Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands which took place in November 1942. The story reads well and the author, Rich Rostron does a fabulous job melding current times with the fading, but oh so precious memories of a dying seaman.
